Berkshire Hathaway share price: 3 things to expect from Q1 results

He holds a stake in Apple and had a sizeable investment in IBM at one point, but has generally refrained from investing in numerous biggest technology companies that have become powerhouses in the 21st Century, including Google, Facebook and - until now - Amazon. While Buffett has always admired Jeff Bezos, he didn't invest in Amazon. After taking losses, Buffett had sold almost all the IBM stock by previous year. Amazon was trading sharply higher in pre-market trading on May 3.

Buffett also announced Berkshire Hathaway renewed its lease at the Omaha headquarters.

"We have an investment company that is trying to be like Warren Buffett in Sweden".

Buffett, 88, and long-time business partner, Charles Munger, 95, have praised the pair, with Munger saying they give Berkshire "younger eyes". While Berkshire Hathaway's stake in Amazon might not be a game changer, it could decrease some of the valuation concerns. Buffett's assistant didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

"Yeah, I've been a fan, and I've been an idiot for not buying", Mr Buffett said, according to the report.

Apple was the largest single holding in Berkshire's US$173 billion ($260.3b) equity portfolio at the end of past year, with a stake valued at more than US$40b.

Buffett is 89 years old and has owned Berkshire Hathaway shares for 57 years, but the "Oracle of Omaha" shows no signs of slowing down. His US$10 billion investment in the computer giant in 2011 was a curiosity for Berkshire Hathaway and it did not end well. "They got into Apple late in the game-from nowhere five years ago to now it's their biggest holding", Cathy Siefert, equity research analyst at CFRA Research, told CBS MoneyWatch.

The $21.66-billion overall profit, or $13,209 per Class A share, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $1.14 billion, or $692 per share, and a fourth-quarter net loss of $25.39 billion. Still, Berkshire ended 2018 with its Apple investment valued more than the cost of buying the shares.
