Trump says decision on McGahn testimony coming

Trump says decision on McGahn testimony coming

Nadler, however, asks Barr to reconsider his refusal to let members of Congress view the redacted grand jury material in the report.

Barr didn't appear at Thursday's hearing.

"The failure of Attorney-General Barr to come to the hearing today is simply another step in the administration's growing attack on American democracy and its attack on the right of Congress" as a co-equal branch of government, Mr Nadler said.

But now Barr has emerged as arguably the most divisive figure in Donald Trump's administration. If I were [Bill] Barr, I would tell Jerry Nadler to pound sand.

Mr Barr released Mr Mueller's report on April 18, with some parts blacked out to protect sensitive information.

Flood argued this was not the job of the special counsel, which is a concern echoed by the president's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

And your whole explanation, which I just heard, which astounds me, which is, oh, the question that Representative Crist asked was about the staff, then that boomerangs on you, because, after all, Barr's explanation yesterday was, well, Mueller didn't actually write the letter, I thought it was written by his staff. The Judiciary Committee had subpoenaed Barr for the unredacted report and its underlying evidence, but the attorney general's office failed to meet the May 1 deadline to turn over those materials.

Barr appeared to testify, both in House and Senate committees in April, that he was unaware of any misgivings Mueller had over his four-page summary. The letter zeroes in on a line found in Volume II of the report in which Mueller's teams said the evidence prevented them from "conclusively determining no criminal conduct occurred".

"I know there are some people who don't think this March 27 letter is a big deal", Wallace said.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said he will decide in the coming days whether he will allow former White House lawyer Don McGahn to testify before U.S. lawmakers or whether he will invoke executive privilege to block his testimony. Mr Barr cancelled his testimony after clashing with Mr Nadler over the hearing's format. Nadler says that in the past, courts have agreed to provide 6 (e) documents in the past.

The Department of Justice has said a version of the Mueller report that has fewer redactions than the publicly available document is now available for viewing by members in congressional leadership, including Nadler. It also describes actions Trump took to try to impede Mueller's investigation.

The decision to avoid a determination on obstruction caught Barr by surprise, Justice Department officials said, and he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein resolved to reach a conclusion in place of Mueller's team.
