Central Intelligence Agency warning over Huawei

Central Intelligence Agency warning over Huawei

The company has been banned from providing equipment or services to U.S. government agencies.

However, new information from The Times reveals that the CIA has finally divulged critical information that could sway the Five Eyes Intelligence Group, consisting of the U.S., the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

The CIA has warned intelligence officials that Huawei receives funding from China's National Security Commission, the People's Liberation Army and a third branch of the Chinese state intelligence network, a source in Britain told the newspaper.

The report comes after earlier this month US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that Washington may scrap cooperation with some "important strategic partners" who use Huawei Technologies Co Ltd systems. Huawei has consistently denied claims that it has ties to the country's government, has said that it would "categorically refuse" any requests for data from the government, and "declined to comment on what it called unsubstantiated allegations".

Guo Ping, rotating chairman of the company, has said he expects all three business groups - consumer, carrier and enterprise - to post double-digit growth this year.

The US also charged Meng Wanzhou - the company's CFO and founder's daughter - with financial fraud.

Moreover, with 2019 being the year of worldwide 5G deployment, Huawei envisions unprecedented opportunities for business growth.

The sanctions were lifted after ZTE paid $1.4 billion in penalties.

This proclaimed optimism comes in spite of repeated calls from the United States government for countries to boycott Huawei's telecommunications systems, specifically its 5G equipment, over allegations that the vendor had shared sensitive information with the Chinese government and provided access to private U.S. business communications.
