AG WIlliam Barr delivers breakdown of the Mueller report pre-release

Donald Trump feared the probe into Russian Federation election meddling led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller would doom his presidency and attempted to fire the top investigator, according to Mueller's long-awaited report, which was finally released Thursday. Barr also said that Mueller "did not find any conspiracy to violate US law involving Russia-linked persons and any persons associated with the Trump campaign".

"The special counsel's report states that his investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities", the attorney general told reporters.

Mueller also said there wasn't sufficient evidence to charge any campaign official with working as an unregistered foreign agent of Russian Federation. While newsrooms across the country digested the report, the White House guests, already seated while waiting for the president to arrive, were entertained by the U.S. Marine Band.

Mueller and his team investigated 10 instances where obstruction could be a consideration, Barr said.

"Barr shouldn't be spinning the report at all, but it's doubly outrageous he's doing it before America is given a chance to read it", Schumer said.

At Justice Department headquarters, reporters buzzed around as they awaited Barr and then the Mueller report. There was no obstruction of justice - the - there was no evidence of that that the attorney general found even though the - Mueller himself didn't make a judgment on that.

Mr Trump had preceded his attorney general with tweets, a video and a meme to push his long-declared claims that there was no collusion and no obstruction of justice.

GREENE: Scott Detrow, I mean, there are legal questions here that I - you know, I assume we'll be sorting out, actually, once we see the report, but - what the intent of the president was.

Mr Barr said that he and his deputy, Rod Rosenstein, concluded this did not equate to obstruction of justice. "Absolutely no. I think the American people - many of them feel betrayed", he says.

Moreover, the report states that the fact that no decision has been made regarding the obstruction case, it does not necessarily exonerate the president.

The release of the report will deepen the discord in Washington between Republicans and Democrats.

The report does outline contacts between Russians and Trump associates, mostly related to business or of exploratory nature.

The president's opponents said that difference was evidence that Mr Barr, who was appointed by Mr Trump, chose to defend him rather than apply the law as he was bound by duty to do.

"So that is the bottom line". And even if he was accurately portraying the report, he seemed to pull out numerous most pro-Trump aspects of it, without dwelling on what might be problematic. But that didn't stop Trump from taking a public victory lap, declaring at a White House event that he was having "a good day".

Critics said Barr's news conference was created to frame the findings before the report was released.

Attorney General William Barr announced the report's release at a press conference on Thursday morning.

WU: It's very clever on Barr's part because he uses executive privilege as a mechanism to share a material that otherwise you would never share with the subject of a criminal investigation.

Barr will hold a 9:30 a.m. ET news conference to present his interpretation of the report's findings, before providing redacted copies to Congress and the public.

The report included an appendix that contained 12 pages of Trump's written responses to the special counsel.

After almost two years of waiting, America is getting some Trump-Russia answers straight from Robert Mueller.
