Tiger 1 shot off lead despite security guard scare

Tiger 1 shot off lead despite security guard scare

Molinari will be in a much better position on Sunday when he tees off with Woods and Tony Finau in the day's final group.

Woods is seeking a fifth Masters title and his first major in 11 years.

There's a five-way tie for the lead in the final round with Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele, Brooks Koepka, Francesco Molinari and Tiger Woods all at 12-under. The club already moved up the tournament's start time for Sunday's play to begin at 7:30 a.m. ET.

But Woods took huge steps toward grabbing a fifth Masters green jacket with a stellar start, the 43-year-old American superstar answering a bogey at the fifth with birdies on the next three holes.

Woods was impressive during a 67 that left him tied second at 11 under alongside American Tony Finau, who carded an equal day's best 64, while three-time major victor Brooks Koepka (69) is fourth at 10 under.

Woods has entered The Masters' final round at -11 or better four other times in his career. Simpson and Ian Poulter are four back.

Fittingly, Francesco Molinari first met Woods at Augusta National when he caddied for his brother, Edoardo, who'd earned a spot in the 2006 Masters by winning the U.S. Amateur. In 2017 at the Masters Woods wasn't in the field and was telling people he thought his playing career was over due to the back issues that plagued him for years. Spieth and Jonas Blixt finished three shots off the pace in second as Watson completed a 69 to secure his second victory at Augusta in three years.

Augusta National might sound different than a tough links along the North Sea of Scotland.

Even United States President Donald Trump, who has golfed with Woods at his Mar-a-Lago resort, said on Twitter he was looking forward to Sunday's final round. He secured his advantage at the par-3 16 by sticking an 8-iron within 2 feet of the cup for another birdie and a two-stroke lead.

Finau, 27, missed a 10-foot putt on the No. 9 hole to break the first-nine record.

"It will be nice not having to wait all day, not having to wait six hours from when I'm up, so you can just get out there and go play", he said. The leaders will tee off at 9:20 a.m'.

The Italian wouldn't go so far as to say he considered it a lucky pairing, and he warned that Woods and Finau wouldn't be the only players he had to worry about.

The work he has done on his putting with Phil Kenyon is unbelievable and this, to me, was the part of the game that previously stopped him from being a great player. This is the gallery that has longed to see him recapture the past, especially after four back surgeries that only two years ago left him hobbling up the stairs, wondering if he would play again.

"I made sure that I had those type of looks, and if I gave myself those looks the way that I'm hitting my lines, I'm going to be all right".

"I've just been making too many mistakes".
