Woman attending University of SC was stabbed to death, coroner says

A SC man has been charged in the murder of a University of SC student who may have gotten into her killer's auto mistakenly believing that it was her Uber ride, police said. Later that day, turkey hunters discovered her body more than 65 miles away in a secluded, wooded area.

"She had, in fact, summoned an Uber ride", Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said, according to USA Today.

Police have arrested 24-year-old Nathaniel D. Rowland on charges of murder and kidnapping, Holbrook said.

At about 1.30am on Friday, authorities say, Josephson got separated from friends in Columbia's Five Points bar district.

Police spotted the Impala that Josephson got into about 3 a.m. Saturday.

The driver had "approached the victim. while she awaited transportation, Holbrook said". Rowland was also in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

The crime shook Columbia, the state capital where the University of SC is one of the main economic engines.

Investigators say Josephson's blood was allegedly found in the trunk and interior of Rowland's auto. Police also found window cleaner, bleach, antibacterial wipes and Josephson's phone.

It was not immediately clear how Josephson died. None. The door was locked, the child safety locks were on. "And very often someone says 'No, I'm Bill" and that's why I tell them, 'Well, we've got a conflict here.

"She truly was the love of my life", her boyfriend said.

Josephson's father, Seymour Josephson, took to social media to confirm his daughter's death. On Facebook, her father said, "It is with tremendous sadness and of a broken heart that I post this!" I cannot fathom how someone could randomly select a person, a lovely girl, and steal her life away.

New Jersey native Samantha Josephson, 21, sustained those fatal injuries to her head, neck, face, upper body, leg and foot, according to the State Law Enforcement Division. "And I'm just thankful she brought that out of me, too". "I sit here and cry while looking at the picture and write this".

Josephson was a political science major, the USC College of Arts and Sciences said on Twitter.

Rowland is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and is expected to appear in court this week for arraignment.

SC representative Seth Rose in a tweet took to heart the message from Samantha's father Seymour that he is making rideshare safety part of his mission in life. "Shame on him", she said. I cannot fathom how someone could randomly select a person, a handsome girl and steal her life away. "His actions were senseless, vile and unacceptable". A driver will know your name once you request a ride, so ask them who they are picking up rather than tell them who you are for added protection.

Marci described her daughter as bubbly, loving, kind and full of life.

Josephson was a senior expecting to graduate in May who planned on attending Drexel University in Philadelphia for law school in the fall.

"Unlike him, Samantha valued human life and could never harm another soul".

He wrote: "I will miss and love my baby girl for the rest of my life". "A hole in our universe and we see the unimaginable ripple, affect her world". "She had absolutely no chance".

Samantha Josephson is pictured in this undated photo released by Columbia Police Department.

She implored the judge, and the world, not to forget her daughter.
