'Are you kidding?' Roger Federer schools Kevin Anderson at the net

'Are you kidding?' Roger Federer schools Kevin Anderson at the net

The top-ranked Swiss veteran Roger Federer defeated South Africa's Kevin Anderson with his master strokes in the quarterfinals of Miami Open 2019.

That's the combined age of the two Canadian teens in the men's semifinals - Shapovalov, 19, will face Federer on Friday night, and the 18-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime will meet defending Miami champion John Isner of the USA earlier Friday.

The defending champion moved closer to another title by hitting 21 aces on Friday and defeating 18-year-old Canadian qualifier Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).

Following Petra Kvitova's exit on Tuesday, Halep needs only to reach tomorrow's final to knock Naomi Osaka off the top of women's tennis after being deposed following the Japanese's second major win at the Australian Open earlier this year.

The youngster from Montreal competed confidently in the biggest match of his career but will rue the chances that escaped him after being broken while serving for the first and second set.

Denis Shapovalov and Frances Tiafoe, two of the game's brightest young talents, will face off for the third time in their burgeoning careers. "I think I have been just improving in the last couple of weeks". I just couldn't serve from my part. Then, he had a brilliant run in the Indian Wells Masters where he reached the final once again. They're really good players, and really good people, too.

Anderson refused to buckle and when he finally managed to get on the board by breaking the former world No 1's serve.

Halep will meet world number seven Karolina Pliskova in the last four on Thursday after she won the battle of the Czechs with Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-4. We have become very popular not just as athletes but then also outside it being ambassadors of different brands and it's nice to be able to jump in and out of character of just playing tennis and honestly becomes a bit boring but you are very interested in doing some media, doing sponsors, doing practice, having a family life.

"I did the best I could", Auger-Aliassime said.

Federer, a victor of 100 career titles, can look back on dozens of brilliant performances and the Swiss maestro could add his ruthless fourth-round win over the red hot Russian to that list.

The 27-year-old from Romania was 5-1 down in the second set but fought back by winning six consecutive games.

It was the first time Anderson, 32, has ever lost a first set at ATP level to love and although the second was far tighter, Federer was always in control. I think I will do at the end of the tournament.
