Ronaldo exits after leg injury in Portugal's Euro qualifier vs. Serbia

Ronaldo exits after leg injury in Portugal's Euro qualifier vs. Serbia

After being forced off the field in Portugal's EURO 2020 qualifier against Serbia on Monday night, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has commented on the injury that cut his night short.

"I'll know more in 24 or 48 hours", he told reporters. It happens, it's football.

Cristiano Ronaldo says he expects to return to action in one or two weeks as he does not think his recent injury is overly serious.

Juventus will tackle Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final cracker in Amsterdam on April 10, but Ronaldo remains confident he will play a role on the encounter, insisting he will be ready to go.

That would see him out of this Saturday's clash with Empoli (5.30pm) as well as Serie A matches against Cagliari in mid-week and AC Milan next weekend.

In his second game with the national team since the World Cup, Ronaldo had to leave before halftime after pulling a muscle while sprinting to try to reach a long pass at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon. I was absent for eight months because I needed some time for myself.

In the 31st minute, the 34-year-old Juventus forward suddenly stopped running and griped his thigh, with Portugal chasing the game after a Dusan Tadic penalty goal handed Serbia the lead.

Portugal and Serbia will meet once again in Serbia when the qualifiers continue in September.

"The assistant was there and I said that it was his fault". "I'm calm, I'll be back in one or two weeks". We created opportunities, played better - Serbia did not have great opportunities.

Ronaldo will be fully aware that these are his final opportunities with the national side and he'll be desperate to appear at Euro 2020 and attempt to defend the trophy with his global teammates.

"The penalty was clear, if we have VAR in all other competitions why not here?"
