Apple's Streaming Service: Here's Everything That Was Announced

Apple's Streaming Service: Here's Everything That Was Announced

With only a few hours to go before Apple unveils its new video service, we're still seeing new information surfacing on exactly what Apple is going to announce later today and what form it will take.

Apple says its long-awaited video streaming service will be called Apple TV Plus and include original programming that CEO Tim Cook says will show "great storytelling".

As we have mentioned earlier, Apple has announced the Apple TV+, a new platform for creative storytellers. Joined on stage with the likes of Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Jason Momoa, Alfre Woodard, and Kumail Nanjiani, the CEO of Apple revealed that Apple TV+ will launch this fall and will be filled with original television content.

Apple says its new subscription News Plus service will not track what you read.

News+ was the only service at the show for which we received a price point: its monthly subscription will cost $9.99, and Apple was quick to tout the fact that individual subscriptions to the same number of magazines would cost thousands of dollars a year.

Apple is finally getting into the streaming service business with the newly announced Apple TV+, and that means even more TV shows and movies to consume on yet another platform. It's also expected to launch a video service that could compete with Netflix, Amazon and cable TV itself. Access to the Apple TV app will soon spread as Apple announced plans to make the app available on Samsung, Sony, and Vizio smart TVs as well as via Roku and Fire TV devices. The new app brings together different ways to discover and watch shows, sports, news, and more in one location across multiple devices. That distinguishes it from Facebook and Google, the other major online news hubs.

Apple's TV push has been cloaked in mystery.

"Global News is thrilled to be a part of Apple News", said Troy Reeb, executive vice-president of Broadcast Networks for Corus Entertainment.

In contrast to a 15% drop in phone sales reported in its most recent quarterly financial results published at the start of the year, Apple's services revenue was up 19% to around £8.3 billion. There's no word yet on how much it will cost when it launches in Fall 2019 in 150 countries.

Bloomberg reported that Apple may discuss the service during its Monday event, but said the company could also hold off until June when it will hold its Worldwide Developers Conference.

The announcement also teased gameplay for several games.

Perks of signing up for an Apple credit card include "Daily Cash" - real money that customers earn every time they use the credit card. The service is geared toward telling uplifting and enlightening stories, but there will certainly be conflict and drama based on the trailers shown.

Cook also said Apple Pay, its digital wallet, will soon be usable on public transit systems in Portland, Oregon, Chicago and New York City.
