Black boxes from crashed Ethiopian Airlines flight sent to Paris for analysis

Black boxes from crashed Ethiopian Airlines flight sent to Paris for analysis

Sunday's crash, in which 157 people from 35 countries were killed minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa, was the second such calamity involving Boeing's 737 Max in less than six months.

In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, Asrat Begashaw says the airline has not decided where to send the data and voice records of the flight's last moments. A Max 8 jet operated by Lion Airlines crashed in Indonesia in October 2018, killing 189 people.

Canada has grounded Boeing's 737 MAX jets over safety concerns and that has caused a number of flight cancellations at the Calgary International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration also backed the jet's airworthiness and said it was reviewing all available data.

Both airlines fly into the Region of Waterloo International Airport, YKF.

"We found out that Canada had grounded all the planes that we were about to be on so we were asked to come and check with ticketing at WestJet and they would put us on another flight", Walker said.

American President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the United States would ground all Boeing 737 Max 8 and Max 9 planes "effective immediately".

He says that "we have a range of options".

South Korea's largest airline, Korean Air, announced it would be putting on hold plans to introduce Boeing 737 Max 8s into their fleet.

A total of 344 of the MAX 8 aircraft have been delivered by Boeing thus far, and it's a popular model for many airlines.

"At the moment we're putting our focus on operations today and assisting airlines as they try to swap aircraft and potentially move them around to different gates", said Reid Fiest, from the Calgary Airport Authority.

Tampa International Airport says three flights were canceled Wednesday after the USA government's decision to halt operation of all of Boeing's 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 planes.

In a statement issued this morning, Boeing said the decision to ground all 737 Max aircraft worldwide was made "out of an abundance of caution".

"We are making adjustments to our schedule to minimize the disruption to customers as much as possible, by optimizing the deployment of the rest of our fleet and looking at alternative options, including accommodating customers on other airlines", an Air Canada spokesperson said.
