Petra Kvitova battles into second Dubai final

Petra Kvitova battles into second Dubai final

Switzerland's Belinda Bencic celebrates after defeating Romania's Simona Halep in their quarterfinal match of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

On the back of three three-set wins over Top 10 players, in Dubai this week, Belinda Bencic is into a WTA Premier 5 final for the first time since her breakthrough title at the 2015 Rogers Cup.

"It was a tough one today, she really didn't give me anything for free", Kvitova said.

The 21-year-old Swiss claimed the opener before Kvitová, who took a break from the sport after losing the Australian Open final to Naomi Osaka last month, found her form and fought back.

"It was a tough one today, for sure".

What Kvitova means by "escaping" is the fact that she arrived to Dubai so mentally and emotionally tired that she told WTA Insider that the first five weeks of the season - in which she won Sydney and made the Australian Open final back-to-back - were a "crushing time" for her and "I'm not feeling really fresh, to be honest".

Svitolina failed the first set of the match against the 45-th racket of the world Belinda Bencic. It's been tough since I came from Australia and St. Petersburg.

In the end, for all her guile and improvisational shot-making, Hsieh had no answer to Kvitova's raw power, mustering just 14 clean winners compared to 48 from her opponent.

"I feel tennis is the way I can escape to other things". However, the 2013 Dubai champion, Kvitova's adeptness has left the Taiwanese player's dream unfulfilled. Kvitova has won all four of her meetings with Taiwan's Hsieh, most recently in the second round of January's Sydney International.

"I didn't really play the best at the end of the first set". Incidentally, in her match against Sabalenka, Bencic saved six match-points and needed a final set tie-breaker against Svitolina to get to the final. "I think he will (return)", Judy was quoted as saying by Sky Sports at the Rio Open. I don't know. It was something weird. "It's not really that easy to make those winners against her". "(But) I think he's aware that it might not be possible.

As Belinda Bencic fell into a unsafe deficit in the Dubai Championships semifinals, she threw her racket and yelled at herself.

There will be no three-peat for Elina Svitolina in Dubai.
