Tyson Fury inks ESPN deal reportedly worth more than $100m

Tyson Fury inks ESPN deal reportedly worth more than $100m

The Brit's massive comeback fight against WBC champion Deontay Wilder, when he rose off the canvas to salvage a draw against the American, impressed many keen judges in the US.

The time scale may be delayed, even though Wilder is indicating that he is not personally contracted to the Showtime cable network in America and may be able to fight Fury on ESPN there as well as BT Sport in the UK.

Fury believes the deal makes a rematch with Deontay Wilder "more makeable".

Former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world Lennox Lewis has been in the news in the sport of boxing a lot lately despite being retired for some time now.

However, Wilder is under contract with PBC, which has deals with Fox and Showtime. I wake up in the morning and I think about Anthony Joshua.

With Fury and Wilder eyeing a rematch - and the situation further complicated by the fact all three major players in the division are now contracted to rival United States networks - Miller, despite his average-looking record, was the next best in line.

"If I didn't want to fight him (Wilder) I wouldn't have done it in the first place".

Fury's deal with ESPN means all his fights will air on the network while Wilder is signed to fight on rival network Showtime. But we have realised with this deal that the blockades and obstacles are vast going forward here.

"We are hoping to make the fight and figure out how with this new relationship they have with ESPN that it can be done". He said he has seen signs of goodwill from both sides.

"This is about hard work and doing whatever you can do to win the fight".

If it isn't Wilder versus Fury, who can it be?

The pair fought to a controversial split draw in Los Angeles last December, in a fight most observers felt Fury had won, despite being knocked down twice.

Public perception of Joshua has slipped in some quarters, with the unified champion facing criticism for not agreeing mega fights with Wilder or Fury.

I must say though, this feels like great news for people in the Anthony Joshua camp.

After Miller gave a trying story about how he came from the dirt, working his way up to this opportunity and how this is all a part of God's plan, Joshua clapped sarcastically and called his upcoming opponent's passionate elocution nothing more than "unbelievable acting". "I know he knows what's coming".

Like many fans, I am completely confused as to what is going on.

It's a brand new deal, but it does not yet feel like a brand new day in the heavyweight division.
