Rod Rosenstein plans to leave Justice Department next month

Rod Rosenstein plans to leave Justice Department next month

The US Justice Department official who once oversaw the Russian Federation probe, Rod Rosenstein, plans to resign in mid-March, US news outlets reported. While plans could change if necessary for transition reasons, Rosenstein has been expected to leave his post once the new attorney general, William Barr, takes over the department. Rosen is now the deputy secretary of transportation.

Rosenstein appointed Mueller because Jeff Sessions, who was attorney general at the time, had recused himself from matters related to the Russian Federation investigation.

Barr, who oversees special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump's 2016 campaign and Russian election interference, has suggested that the probe is politically biased against Trump.

"As the deputy attorney general previously has stated, based on his personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment, nor was the DAG in a position to consider invoking the 25th Amendment". Rosenstein has often been a target of President Trump on Twitter. He and Rod Rosenstein, who was hired by Jeff Sessions (another beauty), look like they were planning a very illegal act, and got caught.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe claimed in an interview that aired Sunday that Rosenstein broached the idea of wearing a wire to the White House in May 2017, days after James Comey was sacked as FBI director.

CNN's Justice Department source said that the news of Rosenstein's impending departure has nothing to do with McCabe's accusations.

Rosenstein said that he did not believe there were grounds to invoke the 25th Amendment to removeTrump, and claimed he was joking when he discussed wearing a wire.
