Raptors acquire Marc Gasol from Grizzlies for package including Jonas Valanciunas

Raptors acquire Marc Gasol from Grizzlies for package including Jonas Valanciunas

The second deal was the bigger one, which sent Gasol to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Miles and a 2024 second-round pick.

The Raptors reportedly offered Valanciunas and Kyle Lowry for Gasol and Mike Conley, but that deal was rejected by the Grizzlies.

Even though Gasol was long rumored to end up with the Hornets themselves, he now finds himself a member of the Toronto Raptors. "Obviously he had little battles with his back and he's trying to get back to where he was before, and I think maybe we should take time and acknowledge that from when we came here, and this is all credit to him", he said. "I just know one thing, we have a good team, we have a good future in front of us". Greg Monroe was also dealt to Brooklyn for cash considerations in a separate transaction.

The three-time All-Star big man has spent his entire National Basketball Association career with the Memphis Grizzlies, but the franchise is entering a rebuilding stage. He is the Grizzlies' franchise leader in points, rebounds, blocks and field goals made.

Toronto (39-16) is two games back of the Milwaukee Bucks (40-13) atop the Eastern Conference.

It's not a surprise that Toronto made a move because Philly added Tobias Harris and Milwaukee added Nikola Mirotic. The Raptors are getting center former All-Star center Marc Gasol from Memphis.

The 34-year-old has a one year remaining on a five-year $110 million contract he signed in 2015. The amount of his bonus (if not waived) will be applied to his $24.1 million salary.

When the Warriors play at Memphis on March 27 and April 10, they won't be facing Marc Gasol.

Valanciunas is averaging 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds while Wright is scoring 6.9 points per game and Miles is putting up 5.5 points.
