Trump, North Korea's Kim to Meet in Vietnam Feb. 27-28

Trump, North Korea's Kim to Meet in Vietnam Feb. 27-28

"Our hostages have come home, nuclear testing has stopped, and there has not been a missile launch in 15 months".

Trump then offered his theory that the election of Hillary Clinton would've resulted in war between the nuclear powers.

In the State of the Union address before the US Congress on the same day, President Trump had said he would meet North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un in Vietnam on February 27-28.

As a single-party communist state, Vietnam boasts tight political control and an efficient security apparatus, and successfully hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in the central coastal city of Da Nang and the regional edition of the World Economic Forum a year ago in the capital, Hanoi.

U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun was due to hold talks in Pyongyang this week to map out what he called "a set of concrete deliverables" for the second meeting.

Iraqis in the capital Baghdad said U.S. army forces have been walking around the city accompanied by the Iraqi army, Al-Khaleej Online reported.

North Korea has repeatedly urged a lifting of punishing US -led sanctions, a formal end to the war, and security guarantees.

"The miracle could be yours", Pompeo said, addressing Kim.

US envoy Stephen Biegun is due to meet his North Korean counterpart Kim Hyok Chol on Pyongyang on Wednesday, as he attempts to push forward preparations for the summit and advance a plan to reinvigorate talks about denuclearization.

Trump said the United States spent a fortune on a base in Iraq.

The two men held a first meeting in Singapore in June, during which they agreed on a framework for future negotiations, including that North Korea would begin to work toward "complete denuclearisation".

In particular, he spelled out the Trump administration's vision of a fundamentally transformed relationship with North Korea, including significant economic engagement, if the country gives up its nuclear arsenal.

During a surprise visit to Iraq late previous year, Trump made clear that he has "no plans at all" to remove USA troops from the Middle Eastern country, stressing his interest in wanting more soldiers deployed there from Syria.

Trump went on to confirm the date and location for his next summit with Kim Jong Un.

"It is contingent on progress of talks between North Korea and the United States but the possibility is low", he said.

But during the State of the Union address, the President expressed much more confidence.

While Trump has hailed "tremendous progress" in his dealings with North Korea, a confidential report by United Nations sanctions monitors seen by Reuters this week cast further doubt on the North's intentions.
