Reed, Gonzalez, Bailey headline 2019 Hall of Fame class

Reed, Gonzalez, Bailey headline 2019 Hall of Fame class

"From when I retired and found out they were going to have the Super Bowl here, I was like, well, that times out if I could be a first ballot - if I'm lucky enough to be a first ballot - it's going to be in Atlanta!"

The 48-year-old spent most of his career with the New York Jets and also played with the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks.

A second-round pick by the Seahawks, Mawae spent 18 years as a starting National Football League lineman, dominating in the trenches for the Seahawks, Jets and Titans.

Others who will be inducted in August are former Chiefs and Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez, ex-Redskins and Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey, former Chiefs safety Johnny Robinson, longtime Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and former Cowboys executive Gil Brandt.

This year's class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, on August 3. In his 12 seasons in Kansas City, he revolutionized his position and his excellence on the field and his commitment to the community made him one of the most beloved players in Chiefs history. He had 53 career interceptions, seven of which he returned for TDs. "I was there 12 years but only three playoff games". The 74-year-old is now battling Alzheimer's disease.

His high praise for Atlanta and the Falcons left some Chiefs fans frustrated with a player many have loved for more than two decades.

The contributor nominees, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and Cowboys and National Football League executive Gil Brandt, each made it, as did senior Johnny Robinson, the defensive back who helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl 4. "He was an integral part of three Super Bowl championship teams and we are honored to have another Patriot take his rightful place in Canton".

Law's career spanned 15 seasons, with the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Chiefs and Broncos.

He finished his career in Ann Arbor with 154 tackles, six interceptions and 17 passes defended.

Brandt was the vice president of player personnel for the Cowboys from 1960-1988.

James has been a finalist in three of the last four years, and he even made into the top 10 of finalists, but he will again have to wait until next year for his gold jacket and Hall of Fame bust.
