Weather Forecaster Warns Of "Snow Bomb" Hitting UK This Week

Weather Forecaster Warns Of

Weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued by the Met Office and flurries were reported in Glasgow overnight.

Powys County Council has already prepared for the weather and will have gritters and snow ploughs out on main roads.

Three to five centimeters of snow is predicted, with up to 10 cm in a few places. Lines of showers run in from the west during Tuesday bringing wintry showers and a cold front engages with the low to the south and this could bring snow too.

Met Office experts predict delays on roads while rail and air travel may also be hit.

England can expect temperatures as low as -6C this week and Scotland is forecast to suffer lows colder than -14C.

Light rain, possibly turning to sleet, is expected tomorrow afternoon which could turn to ice on pavements and untreated surfaces.

A yellow weather warning is in place from midday for northern and western England and Wales and from 9pm for the southeast, East Midlands and East Anglia.

"Areas of higher ground are most likely to see significant snowfall, so it's particularly important to take extra care when planning and travelling in those places".

A patchy covering of 1 to 2 cm is possible at low levels, although some places will see no snow at all.

Snow is set to return to Altrincham tomorrow and Wednesday.

The update says: "Risk of snow is now expected to affect more eastern parts of Scotland than previously, area extended east to include Fife, Lothians and Borders".
