Women’s March Leader Refuses to Acknowledge Israel’s Right to Exist

Women’s March Leader Refuses to Acknowledge Israel’s Right to Exist

More than half of the roughly 500 partner organizations that supported the nationwide Women's March demonstration last year have abandoned the organization ahead of this year's protests, which will take place Saturday in Washington, D.C. and other cities across the country.

Saturday's event came a day after Women's March leaders unveiled a 10-prong political platform that the group says will outline "realistically achievable" priorities, such as raising the federal minimum wage, addressing reproductive rights and violence against women and passing the long-dormant Equal Rights Amendment.

Women and their allies are participating in marches across Canada, from large cities to tiny villages, demanding the advancement of the rights of women and other vulnerable groups.

"The agenda is specifically focused on legislative and policy actions that are achievable by 2020", Women's March Chief Operating Officer Rachel Carmona said earlier.

And they are up in arms about statements by the Republican president - accused by several women of sexual misconduct - that they see as sexist or racist. Sarsour said she wanted to make sure the concerns of immigrant and minority women were heard in New York City protest efforts. "Our democracy only works when people like you stand up and demands it", Gillibrand said.

At Foley Square, the 29-year-old lawmaker said marchers were picking up "where the civil rights movement left off". "That it is darkest before the light", Graham said.

The newly elected women - almost all Democrats - include the first Muslim women and first Native American women in Congress, as well as the first black women to represent their states in New England.

As the political movement that grew out of hundreds of loosely affiliated marches in 2017 has grown, divisions have emerged.

One procession, around the edge of Central Park and down Sixth Avenue, is being organized by the Women's March Alliance, a non-profit group whose leaders are putting on their version of the demonstration for the third straight year.

"There's a level of accountability that we need to hold white establishment men to if we're going to hold Tamika Mallory to that standard", Wash said.

Mallory, who has been forced in recent days to confront questions about her association with notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, acknowledged during the interview that "all people have the right to exist" but would not address the legitimacy of the Israeli state.

But Rebecca Vilkomerson, executive director of Jewish Voice for Peace, said her group would be out with some other Jewish organizations at the downtown rally organized by Okeyo's group, Women's March NYC.

Wash came to the Washington march with her friend Nan Sullivan, 65, a business owner also from Saratoga Springs.

"We just had enough - the wall, Kavanaugh, the whole thing". She said she would "keep opposing Donald Trump and his policies". That means we will not be quiet when it comes to the rights of black women. The annual March for Life by anti-abortion campaigners was held in Washington on Friday, attended by Vice President Mike Pence.
