Several inches of snow in this weekend’s forecast

Several inches of snow in this weekend’s forecast

A winter storm watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening across parts of northern CT.

Most of the Bay State will see "plowable and accumulating snow" starting around midnight and lasting into Sunday. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches expected.

That storm will be followed by a freeze-up as a blast of Arctic Air will bring the coldest air of the season.

The wind chill is expected to fall to negative 20 degrees in New York City on Monday and negative 29 degrees in Cincinnati. Temperatures reach the upper 30s to lower 40s. The wind will not only lead to snow gusts but also extremely unsafe windchills into the -20°C to -30°C range.

Adjustments to the storm track are still likely, which will have an effect on where the heaviest snow will fall Saturday into Sunday. "Conditions over interior New England could approach blizzard criteria as the storm brings very strong northerly winds together with heavy snow", the NWS said. It's heavy for a time before becoming a wintry mix Sunday. Several inches of snow remain possible for the area.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Travel could be very hard to impossible. Wind chills will be in the single digits and below zero Saturday night into Sunday.

The heaviest snow is expected to hit the Chicago area late Friday afternoon and evening.

The accumulation forecast for St. Louis is 2 to 4 inches.

Tonight: Snow and blowing snow. Prepare for heavy snow in parts of northern Pennsylvania and NY state to western and northern New England. Significant snow accumulations are not now forecast for eastern Suffolk.

Sunday: Partly sunny and cold.
