Jordan Henderson: Mo Salah will be motivated by criticism

Jordan Henderson: Mo Salah will be motivated by criticism

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks has praised Liverpool midfielder Fabinho's performance at centre-back against Brighton.

After suffering their first loss in the league to champions Manchester City followed by an FA Cup third-round exit at the hands of Wolves, it was vital for Liverpool to stop the blip from turning into a rut at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

With Arsenal now six points behind fourth-place Chelsea, Emery may not have the luxury to leave out one of his most influential attackers on tactical grounds.

The Seagulls boss, who had no complaints over the spot-kick award, lamented: "I feel for Pascal because Mo Salah is probably the most risky player once he gets in those positions one on one".

'That's what they did, against Joe Gomez in the home game as well.

"He did well in these situations (dealing with the high ball) and with (playing) the ball it's absolutely clear".

Shoe-horned in at centre-back against Brighton, the Brazilian delivered a strong performance alongside Virgil van Dijk, reading the play well and showing positional intelligence to snuff out the danger.

England full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered an injury scare in the warm-up, stepping on the ball, but went on to play the entire match. Klopp confirmed the 20-year-old picked up an ankle concern, but he remains hopeful he will not to lose the talented right-back for any future fixtures. 'I think he stepped on the ball. 'And it was pretty painful. He made the sprints but I didn't like the way he did the sprints because when he slowed down, it looked a bit like limping.

The away crowd, believing he went down too easily, went on to boo Salah, with parts of the media drawing attention to recent penalty calls in his favour.

"I feel for Pascal".

"The two Brighton games have been massive for us because we have not been at our best", he said.

"The break that we are getting at the end of January is going to be 100 per cent helpful for the boys with injuries", the boss told the Liverpool Echo.
