Xiaomi Could Be Working on a Foldable Phone, Hands-On Video Surfaced Online

Xiaomi Could Be Working on a Foldable Phone, Hands-On Video Surfaced Online

While Samsung has barely shared any more details about its foldable smartphone after teasing it this past November, it looks like Xiaomi is already hard at work to beat the South Korean electronics company to the punch. The Xiaomi foldable phone on the leaked video looks sleek which has slim bezels.

The FlexPai is rough around the edges but could be the world's first commercially available foldable tablet-phone.

The alleged foldable phone appears to be flexible enough and is seemingly divided into three screens for the device to be used as both smartphone and tablet.

We see new smartphone features every few months - starting from CES in January to various events through the year.

Foldable smartphones have been a concept for a long time now with a few proof of concept devices being shown off at worldwide events.

While Blass urges caution and reminds users that the authenticity of neither the video nor the device itself cannot be confirmed, if this is legitimate it could prove to be very interesting indeed. In fact, the status bar icon at the bottom of the screen together with the lock screen shortcuts happens to be the biggest give-away of that. You can see in the video below that the device has a wide screen and it can be folded from the left and the right, effectively turning it into a smartphone. The device turns into a compact-sized phone (at least as per today's smartphone screen size standards) when it is fully folded. And from the stuff we can make out, the device is running Android 9.0 Pie-based MIUI 10.

As Blass notes on Twitter, he doesn't know if the video is authentic or a convincing fake, but the person who leaked the video to him says it's a Xiaomi device.
