Mourinho tells United to treat Young Boys clash as 'last chance'

Mourinho tells United to treat Young Boys clash as 'last chance'

Manchester United will look to get back to winning ways, when they take on Swiss champions BSC Young Boys in their penultimate Group H encounter of the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Progress would be a welcome shot in the arm after Saturday's tepid goalless draw with struggling Crystal Palace, which left them 14 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and with a mere three wins from nine home matches in all competitions.

"I refuse to say that - I think it would be a lack of respect to the stadium and fans to say we prefer to play away from home, I totally refuse to say that", the United manager said.

However, Mourinho knocked back suggestions his players find it easier to play away and laughed off a suggestion that playing at Old Trafford brought added pressure ahead of facing the Swiss champions.

"I think Manchester United are strong at home and, for sure, also they want to show to their crowd that they are strong also at home", he said.

"If you feel pressure where people come to support, stay and watch on TV".

Subsequent Premier League results have been less impressive - a 3-1 defeat in the Manchester derby followed after the worldwide break by Saturday's uninspiring 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

The United manager stopped short of using such cutting soundbites on the eve of the Young Boys encounter but shed a light on the issues he faces.

"I don't want the team to be waiting, not to be reactive but proactive".

"It is exactly the opposite thing".

Having failed to win their last two games (D1 L1), the Red Devils find themselves under some pressure to bounce back strongly and the tie against Young Boys provides them the flawless opportunity to do so.

'The play in general was really poor'.

Per the Telegraph, a January move is possible, but only if Jose Mourinho is seen as the long term manager at the club.

Paul Scholes branded Manchester United " s performance in the 1-0 victory over Young Boys as "awful" and says Jose Mourinho's team would be "battered' by a better opponent.

"It is not a crucial game, but I want to play like it is the last chance to qualify".

Mourinho said defender Victor Lindelof would likely be out of action for "quite a while" with an injury.
