IFixit's Google Pixel 3 XL Teardown Reveals Samsung Display

IFixit's Google Pixel 3 XL Teardown Reveals Samsung Display

Google's new flagship Pixel 3 XL smartphone features an AMOLED display made by Samsung, according to a teardown of the device from iFixit. We hope the LG display will be on par with the Pixel 3 XL's excellent Samsung OLED. The announcement comes on the heels of a hot controversy that exploded across the tech world when Verizon confirmed yesterday that it would be locking Verizon Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 SIM cards until they had been activated on Verizon. While this might not seem all that surprising given that the Pixel 3 is a Verizon carrier-exclusive device, Verizon has traditionally sold its smartphones unlocked straight out of the box (including previous-generation Pixel phones).

Verizon remains the exclusive Pixel 3 carrier in the United States, and that isn't such a great thing this year, as the Pixel 3 phones are locked to Verizon's network. Our friends at Telus hooked us up with a Pixel 3 XL to give to one lucky victor. This policy is part of an anti-theft initiative that Verizon rolled out earlier this year to discourage folks from stealing from its retail stores. Likewise, this will also likely be good news for Google, as while the Pixel phone-maker has often attracted criticism for not allowing the sale of its phones through other carriers, the reducing of Verizon models to only use on Verizon's network first could have seriously impacted on sales of the Pixel 3 altogether. It shouldn't be a deal-breaker, but it's something to keep in mind when deciding where to buy your shiny new Pixel 3 or 3 XL from.

This makes the Pixel 3 the first Pixel phone to be locker to a carrier, which some might find to be antithetical to the spirit of the Pixel.
