Khashoggi disappearance: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo heads to in Riyadh

Khashoggi, a U.S. resident, Washington Post columnist and leading critic of the powerful Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul two weeks ago to get marriage documents.

Local reports based on information provided by unidentified Turkish officials have painted a bleak picture of deceit and murder.

The tone differed markedly from the statement released by members of the family on October 7, in which they accused the media of politicizing his disappearance and affirmed their trust in the Saudi government to resolve the case. President Donald Trump said in a "60 Minutes" interview that it's possible the Saudis could be responsible for his disappearance and if so, he would inflict "severe punishment".

The Saudi Arabian government is preparing to a release a report claiming Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed as a result of a botched interrogation, CNN reports.

Cengiz said she waited for Khashoggi to come out of the consulate, but he never left.

"I heard that report, but nobody knows if it's an official report", Trump told reporters, without elaborating. He met King Salman in the morning and was due to meet the Crown Prince later. Meanwhile, more business barons pulled out of Saudi Arabia's investment conference Future Investment Initiative on Monday.

Saudi Arabia has pledged to economically retaliate for any US punitive action. They provided no further details. One security official told The New York Times that a squad of 15 Saudi men arrived in Istanbul and killed Khashoggi. After President Donald Trump on Sunday said he could take action if the allegations proved true, the kingdom threatened to use its economic clout to retaliate. "He didn't really know, maybe, I don't want to get into his mind, but it sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers, who knows?".

Either a family friend, a Saudi-owned company or the state's sovereign wealth fund could bid for the Glazer family's private shares in the club valued at nearly £3billion, the report said.

The Washington Post didn't mention the rogue quote until the third paragraph of its story, but then waited eight more paragraphs to note that: "Trump floating a "rogue killers" scenario prompted ridicule from Democrats in Congress".

The Foreign Office spokesman responding to a query about Pakistan's stance on the issue said "we understand that the investigation was ongoing and it would therefore be appropriate to await the outcome". He likely did so because the United States of America has a president who continually attacks journalists as "the enemy of the people".

Trump said Pompeo may go to Turkey after Saudi Arabia.

SAUDI KING THANKS PRESIDENT ERDOĞANA delegation of Saudi officials sent to Turkey to join their Turkish counterparts to find out what happened to Khashoggi spent hours at Istanbul Police Department Headquarters on Vatan Boulevard.

Khashoggi was last seen entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Kudlow said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would be attending a previously scheduled Saudi conference this week to address terrorist financing but those plans could change as details of the investigation become available.

A Saudi delegation arrived in Turkey on Friday to discuss the case with Turkish authorities, following a Turkish presidential spokesperson's announcement that a joint Turkish-Saudi investigation team would be formed upon the kingdom's request.
