Senate Judiciary Committee Recommends Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court

Senate Judiciary Committee Recommends Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court

However, the Committee voted to recommend confirmation. and did NOT insist on the one-week delay.

In a statement released by the White House on Friday, Kavanaugh said he was interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation throughout the selection process and participated in several background calls with the Senate. "That's what this effort is about".

The investigation will be limited to "current credible allegations" against Kavanaugh and must be completed within a week, the committee requested.

For the rest of America, the testimonies Thursday of Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh were a riveting and emotional display of democracy that could affect the country for years to come. "I doubt it. This may, may be powerful corroborating evidence that the assault happened, that it happened that day, and that it happened in that place, but with no FBI investigation, we can't tell". But it returned when Senator Chuck Grassley delayed the committee's vote amid speculation that something was going on involving discussions just outside the hearing room involving Flake and committee Democrats.

"Well, it's not up to you", said Blumenthal. Flake often appeared conflicted and pained as senators engaged in a contentious debate over the nomination. Demands for an FBI investigation were simply a Democratic stalling tactic, according to Republicans, who assume that Democrats will reject any findings that don't turn up more dirt and will search for more unfalsifiable accusers from Kavanaugh's distant past. He said: "I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process".

Ashley Judd, an initial whistleblower in the #MeToo movement, vowed to "confront Jeff Flake in public for the rest of his life". The full Senate did much the same later that month - and so Kavanaugh finally became a member of the bench.

Shortly afterward, Murkowski, Collins and Sen.

His group's endorsement of Kavanaugh notwithstanding, Carlson urged the Senate to pause the confirmation and have the FBI investigate the claims against Kavanaugh before making a decision.

"What I'm encouraged by is that in an anteroom, back-hall conversation - first with Sen".

Then she let Flake have it. "[Dianne] Feinstein and then with many other senators of both parties, there was broad agreement that this committee has been too divided and too partisan with this process", Coons said. What we don't know: Will he vote the same way for the president's nominee Brett Kavanaugh?

On Friday, Trump directed the law enforcement agency to re-open the background investigation of his nominee after Sen.

Democrats had wanted to subpoena Mr. Judge but the GOP rejected that. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., argued. "It's about digging up new dirt or doing whatever it is they do over there to get people to come forward 36 years later". The White House declined to answer specific inquiries.

And it turns out the Senate won't, at least not without a week-long FBI investigation.

Trump said he onthe meeting owing to the fact he was in a meeting with the president of Chile.

Trump was vague about whether he would agree to an FBI investigation, telling pool reporters that the committee should do "whatever they think is necessary" about a possible delay.

Those are the simple words that outline the process prescribed by the U.S. Constitution for confirming Supreme Court justices.

Judge had sent letters to the committee saying he did not recall any encounter between Kavanaugh and Ford. Kavanaugh categorically denied it.
