Fox Business' Charles Gasparino Calls Out Trump's GDP Lie

This time to tout his economic success, with the GDP growth rate hitting 4.2 percent for the last quarter and topping the unemployment rate of 3.9 percent, something Trump claimed "for the first time in 100 years".

Gasparino responded with a mix of snark and anger.

Listening to Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett discuss the effects of the Trump administration's tax, regulatory and economic policies, one might infer that rationality reigns in the White House.

"The history of thought of how errors happen is not something that, you know, I can engage in, because, like, from the initial fact to what the president said, I don't know the whole chain of command", he said, the Examiner reported.

"I have to kind of remind them, actually", he said in an address in IL, "those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016". After sharing this fact, Lemon played a clip of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders dismissing Bob Woodward's new book, Fear: Trump In The White House, as "careless and reckless".

Certainly, the economy is in usually good health: job creation has averaged 211,000 net new positions a month this year, the highest since 2015, when Mr Obama was in charge.

"I do wonder who on earth told him that GDP growth had never been higher than the unemployment this century".

The only catch.the claim was made by his boss, President Trump.

The government has only been tracking both numbers for 70 years and taking out Wolfers' conclusion to a percentage means that what Trump says has only happened once in the last 100 years has actually happened 20 percent of the time or slightly below the 28.6 percent odds that FiveThirtyEight gave at Trump winning the election.

Hassett's press briefing was largely supportive of Trump's record on the economy, and the comments about the erroneous Twitter post came in response to a question from a reporter.

On Sunday, Trump said in a tweet that "the Stock Market is up nearly 50% since Election".
