'Unhinged' Trump loses temper, claims Woodward book

The Washington Post's Bob Woodward will soon release a book entitled Fear about the Donald Trump presidency, and we're getting our first reports on what it contains. Woodward's account relies on deep background conversations with sources, meaning their identities are not disclosed. "What was also released was I think one of the most interesting phone calls, between the President and Bob Woodward". The book, which is scheduled for release on September 11, is the latest to detail tensions within the White House under Trump's 20-month-old presidency. Trump has called Sessions "mentally retarded" and a "dumb Southerner", according to Woodward.

Trump did not understand the need for a special intelligence operation in South Korea that allows the USA to detect a North Korean missile launch within just seven seconds, versus 15 minutes from Alaska, said The Washington Post, citing veteran journalist Bob Woodward's upcoming book, Fear: Trump in the White House.

Trump's former lawyer, John Dowd, conducted a practice session with the president for a potential interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, later telling Mueller why the results meant Trump could not be interviewed: "I'm not going to sit there and let him look like an idiot", Dowd said.

Defence secretary James Mattis apparently told a staffer the president had the foreign policy understanding of a "fifth- or sixth-grader" - a child of 11 or 12.

No clear response strategy emerged immediately after the Post report, but insiders speculated the fallout could be worse than from Fire and Fury, given Mr Woodward's storied reputation.

According to Woodward, when Trump finally condemned them, he nearly immediately told aides: "That was the biggest fucking mistake I've made" and the "worst speech I've ever given".

"If they said it, they should be questioning why they are there", Giuliani said.

Woodward reported that after Syria's Bashar Assad launched a chemical weapons attack on civilians in April 2017, Trump called Mattis and said he wanted the Syrian leader taken out, saying: "Kill him!"

"We finally are inside the Trump White House", Bernstein said.

In the biggest irony, Trump blasted the Obama White House in 2013 for "attacking" Woodward, during a controversy over an exchange Woodward had with an administration aide.

"Let's fucking kill him! This is the worst job I've ever had". "Mr. President, I'm afraid I just can't help you".

We've already seen how Trump calls people names.

In one small group meeting, Kelly said of Trump: "He's an idiot".

The Post report on Tuesday recounts a National Security Council meeting on January 19, citing Woodward's upcoming book, "Fear: Trump in the White House".

In one meeting, Kelly reportedly said Trump was "an idiot", and it was "pointless to try to convince him of anything".

Hats off to Brit here, who somehow converts a book-length indictment of Trump's basic fitness to be president into an indictment of the people who spent the entire 2016 campaign warning that Trump was unfit to be president.

Needless to say, even The Washington Post's preview of Fear: Trump in the White House is enough to simultaneously induce shudders and reasonable fear for the future of this country.

Trump himself is described as saving much of his ire for Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Trump says he would have liked to speak with Woodward and he says it sounds like it will be a "negative" book.

Another book, another round of sensational claims about the Trump White House.
