Tottenham Hotspurs delay move to new ground over 'safety issues'

Tottenham Hotspurs delay move to new ground over 'safety issues'

Tottenham's upcoming Premier League matches against Liverpool (15 September) and Cardiff City (6 October) will be switched to Wembley, the club has announced.

"We know this will be disappointing for all our season tickets holders, premium members and our fans worldwide", said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

The Raiders' home game against the Seattle Seahawks has been moved.

Tottenham host Fulham at Wembley on Saturday, a London derby which had always been scheduled to take place at the national stadium.

English soccer's national stadium will also stage the October 21 game between the Tennessee Titans and the Los Angeles Chargers, and the meeting between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars a week later.

Tottenham's new stadium, which is built on the site of the now-demolished White Hart Lane stadium, was designed as much for soccer as American football.

Spurs, following this setback, will provide further updates following talks with the "relevant organising bodies", the club also added in its statement, after which the domestic and European cup match venues will be determined.

The team and construction group have been meeting to review the situation and determine a new timetable to fix the issues and undergo a re-test.

The delays created by these difficulties mean that we can no longer hold the necessary Test Events on August 27 and September 1. The Raiders played the Dolphins there in 2014, the only previous game the team has played in London. They are yet to be rescheduled so local authorities can decide whether to grant the stadium with a safety certificate. In 2016 and 2017 Oakland played regular season games in Mexico City at Estadio Azteca and in 2014 the Raiders played the Dolphins at Wembley.

"At the start of the project we asked for your support during what we knew would be a complex and challenging build and now we ask for your continue patience and forbearance".
