Trump says Attorney General Sessions safe in job at least until November

Trump says Attorney General Sessions safe in job at least until November

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he believed Sessions should "stay exactly where he is", but that voice of support is unlikely to be enough to save him.

Earlier this week, reports emerged alleging that the president was floating the possibility of firing Sessions to White House aides. Sessions was the first Republican senator to endorse Trump as a presidential contender.

Graham also said he would offer Trump some advice: Act more like McCain.

"I view it differently", Trump said.

For sure, President Trump has a special talent for matchmaking unusual bedfellows.

Trump has preferred airing his complaints publicly on Twitter or privately through emissaries, who he will ask to deliver harshly worded messages to Sessions.

In fact, Politico noted, some Republican senators have already expressed a willingness to turn against Sessions. McCain was a big man, worthy of a big country.

At this point, Senate GOP aides believe Trump will listen to McConnell and leave Sessions be for the time being.

Trump has mulled firing Sessions for more than a year, openly mad at him because his recusal from the Russian Federation investigation paved the way for the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. "I will get involved and I'll get in there if I have to". "He's wanted to be attorney general for many, many years".

"I liked Don, but he was NOT responsible for me not firing Bob Mueller or Jeff Sessions".

In recent months, Graham, who gave an emotional tribute to McCain on the Senate floor on Wednesday, sought to balance a friendship with the Republican senator from Arizona with his stated desire to work with Trump, a hard task given the friction between the men. Republicans have also been circulating a long list of executive-branch scandals that their Democratic colleagues have been begging to investigate, according to Axios.

"Sen. Grassley has made clear that former Sen. I have a feeling he took a gamble and supported the president because he knew he would reward loyalty".

Lindsey Graham once warned the Republican Party would be "destroyed" if it nominated Trump, cautioned the president against removing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation, and dismissed his incendiary rhetoric about a deep-state conspiracy against him.

More recently, Republican lawmakers have even been signaling to Trump that they'd be cool with another Saturday Night Massacre.
