First Lady Melania Trump Tells Parents to Help Kids Stop Cyberbullying

First Lady Melania Trump Tells Parents to Help Kids Stop Cyberbullying

Mrs. Trump delivered brief remarks to help open a government-sponsored summit called Federal Partners on Bullying Prevention, encouraging social media and technology companies to provide more opportunities for young people to share ideas for how to be good citizens online.

The "cyberbullying summit" took place in Rockville, Maryland, where the first lady pointed out that children can be more aware of the dangers of social media than the adults responsible for their safety.

Melania Trump said she recently met with students who are part of Microsoft's Council for Digital Good.

See the first lady's remarks in the video, below.

'I can " t decide if Melania's cyber-bullying campaign is just a massive troll on her husband or if she is truly unaware of all of the context here, ' CNN's Chris Cillizza tweeted.

Mrs. Trump is working hard to help children with the many issues they face - including bullying - and that deserves fair and accurate reporting, ' she said.

"The President is proud of her commitment to children and encourages her in all that she does", Grisham added in a statement. She recently launched a US -based effort focused on the well-being of children.

Melania Trump talked up the importance of teaching children positive cyber habits Monday on the same morning that her husband sent tweets deriding current and former US officials, including one message referring to a former Central Intelligence Agency director as a "political hack".

President Donald Trump may be notorious for using his Twitter handle to bully and insult, but that's not deterring first lady Melania Trump from speaking out against cyberbullying.

"I hope John Brennan, the worst CIA Director in our country's history, brings a lawsuit", Trump wrote. Only last week he prompted a new furor by referring to former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman as "that dog" - a term many found to be racist and misogynistic.

President Trump has not visited Africa since taking office. "It can be used in many positive ways, but also can be destructive and harmful when used incorrectly", she said. "This is why Be Best chooses to focus on the importance of teaching our next generation how to conduct themselves safely and in a positive manner in an online setting".

The president also ridiculed special counsel Robert Mueller as "disgraced and discredited", and called for the firing of Justice Department official Bruce Ohr. Her Be Best campaign has emphasized the responsibility of adults in ensuring children's well-being.

"She's addressed this before".
