Liverpool boss Klopp: Big spending always going to happen

Liverpool boss Klopp: Big spending always going to happen

The Reds have been installed as second favourites behind champions Man City following a summer spending spree that saw the club bring in goalkeeper Alisson, midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho and attacker Xherdan Shaqiri.

West Ham United are expected to mount a sustained push for the European places this season. "That's all part of the business, but it doesn't decide anything". What about United? What about the other clubs? They brought in [Riyad] Mahrez, so that doesn't make them weaker.

"We are still Rocky Balboa and not Ivan Drago". We can not be. How? So, we cannot buy any more but we can sell not in the English Premier League. That must be our attitude. "Football is so hard, we try to play in a better way and get near the top of the table as we can". We only did finals. They can still win trophies when you think they've got problems.

"The league is exactly the same".

"In the moment it's nothing, it's like scientists-[in theory] it really works. We have to be like Rocky".

They are looking to build on an appearance in last season's Champions League final and back-to-back finishes in the top four.

"We have to be more consistent. That's how it is, we know that", he told reporters at Melwood. "We know that. We have to be more clinical and more aggressive in the right moments.", the Liverpool boss said.

We'll find out over the next nine months or so whether Pele is right...

"There are a lot of things".

"We need more luck", he said. It has nothing to do with City.

"It won't be through a lack of good buys, though, because they are really good buys". I don't want to forget anybody but they are all ambitious. That's all really hard. That's it. We lost them in other games.

"When I spoke with the owner, we agreed what the project would be for West Ham in the future". We have to come in a championship mood. That's the plan. A lot of people think because of the transfer window we will [challenge more] - but that's not how it is.

Ragnar Klavan is a longer-term absentee in the central defensive area for Klopp, while Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are also doubts who need to be assessed.

"There would always be a point where we spent a bit more money". They are all in different shape.

"Dejan will not be available for the weekend, that's how it is", he confirmed. At the end, I'm pretty sure we have a fantastic football team on the pitch and hopefully I have to make a few decisions. City got three points from us, we got three points from them.
