Baby boy dies after being found in river near Brooklyn Bridge

Baby boy dies after being found in river near Brooklyn Bridge

NEW YORK-Authorities are investigating the death of a baby boy who was found floating in the water near the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan.

Tourists from Oklahoma made the disturbing discovery and waved police down around 4 p.m. Sunday. The baby was wearing only diapers. "I called 911. At that point I thought it was a doll", Mr. Campbell told the AP.

Officials want to know: How long was the boy in the water before an Oklahoma family spotted him Sunday afternoon?

"She just called me over and said there was a baby in the water".

According to police, an officer brought the baby onto the pedestrian walkway and administered CPR. The eyewitness also said it did not appear that the baby fell in from the shore. The boy was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. There were no signs of trauma, and no sign of the child's parents in the area.

The NYPD tweeted that it was searching the waters for any additional victims - a process that continued late into Sunday night.

A medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.

Diana Campbell took video and photos of the scene, hoping the images would be helpful in identifying the infant.

Diana Campbell posted a news story about the incident on her Facebook, adding, "Asking for prayers for this handsome baby boy. someone out there knows what might have happen to him".
