Conor McGregor Dodges Jail Time for Violent UFC Press Conference Tantrum

Conor McGregor Dodges Jail Time for Violent UFC Press Conference Tantrum

NEW YORK-Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor pleaded guilty on Thursday in a Brooklyn courthouse as part of a deal with prosecutors to resolve charges over an April melee at the Barclays Center arena.

McGregor appeared in court in Kings County Criminal Court in Brooklyn, New York charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief for his actions at the UFC 223 media day in April.

Under the deal, the former Ultimate Fighting champion will need to serve five days of community service and undergo anger management classes. "I want to say to my friends, my family, and my fans, thank you for your support". McGregor threw an appliance dolly at the window of a bus that held numerous UFC fighters, including Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rose Namajunas, Borg, and Chiesa, amongst others.

Three fights from UFC 223 were called off due to the incident.

He is expected to return to UFC against current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

He was filmed lobbing a dolly through a window of the bus in a NY stadium at the end of a media event on April 5.

As a condition of the deal with the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, he was required to pay full restitution to the bus company, which he has already fulfilled.

What do you think of Conor McGregor's punishment?

Today's proceedings will not affect McGregor's ability to travel to the US.

One of McGregor's teammates from SBG Ireland, professional MMA fighter Cian Cowley, also was arrested in April for his involvement in the attack.

Conor McGregor, center, appears in court with co defendant Cian Cowley, left, during a hearing, Thursday, July 26, 2018, in the Brooklyn borough of NY. He last fought inside the Octagon back in 2016 at UFC 2015, when he captured the lightweight title after defeating Eddie Alvarez.

While rumors have been swirling that the highly anticipated title bout could take place in October or November, Nurmagomedov's team promises the matchup will come together on their teams while issuing a chilling message to McGregor in anticipation of the fight being finalized.
