Angelique Kerber wins first Wimbledon Title after defeating Serena Williams

Angelique Kerber wins first Wimbledon Title after defeating Serena Williams

Serena Williams is a lesson in the varieties of strength. Thus, by the transitive property, Serena Williams doesn't do moral victories. "I couldn't even walk to my mailbox, so it's definitely not normal for me to be in a Wimbledon final".

Kerber made only five unforced errors the entire match, 19 fewer than Williams.

But there are no excuses to be made, not because of toddlers or conditioning or rust.

In the semifinals it was smooth sailing for Kerber who downed Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets to reach her second Wimbledon finals, her first since 2016. "I'm literally just getting started, so I look forward to it". After another two months away, she played in the French Open in May, withdrawing in the fourth round with an injured pectoral muscle.

In Fissette's analysis, it helped that Kerber had already beaten Williams in a Grand Slam final, and he said his player had drawn on those experiences from Melbourne Park. You can't outhit the biggest hitter. Kerber would bend real low, even putting a knee right on the grass to get a ball back. But she brought up the one match point she required with a forehand bang on the baseline.

Prince Harry's wife enjoyed her day at Wimbledon with her sister-in-law Kate Middleton.

Kerber is much more than a defender. She declined to do the victory lap that runner ups generally participate in, left the second-place dish on the chair, and gave an emotional interview afterwards. If returns and recoveries are a process, Serena is way ahead of pace. Djokovic saved three set points before taking the third-set tiebreaker to establish a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9) lead.

Graf was Kerber's hero when she was growing up in Bremen.

While today marks her first appearance in the royal box at Wimbledon, this isn't the first time Meghan has gone to the tournament. Circumstances don't define us.

"Serena you're a great person and a champion". But when she looks back on this fortnight she will surely be flooded with overwhelming pride.

If you watched the video, Serena's quote was a little different than what the @Wimbledon tweet reads.

We've caught glimpses of them out in public together at royal events, but we'll finally get to see how friendly Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton really are when they step out together this weekend. "I feel like everyone says, 'You're so thin when you breast-feed.' I'm going to be totally frank ..." she said.

It was said through tears, with a tinge of regret, as many statements by Grand Slam runner-ups are.
