Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog, wins World's Ugliest Dog title

And the precious angel you see pictured above, a 9-year-old English bulldog named Zsa Zsa, was chosen by a panel of judges as the contest's latest victor.

Zsa Zsa, an English Bulldog owned by Megan Brainard, stands onstage after being announced the victor of the World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif., Saturday, June 23, 2018.

During the competition, now in its 30th year, the canines flaunt their imperfections as they walk down a red carpet with their handlers and are evaluated by a panel of judges.

The pooch's owner Megan Brainard, from Anoka, Minnesota, will receive $1,500 (£1,100) following the victory in Petaluma, California. The bulldog and her owner, Megan Brainard, couldn't be happier.

Here's what our winning pup's profile had to say about her life before World's Ugliest Dog stardom. "Zsa Zsa was then purchased by Underdog Rescue".

Josie finished third in the contest and Scamp, a dog owned by Yvonne Morones of Santa Rosa, finished second among the 14 dogs that competed. It took her family three days to drive out to Petaluma for the contest.

Some of this year's contestants had hairless bodies, others had lolling tongues.

Last year's victor, a delightfully floppy and seemingly half-melted Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha, didn't compete this year.

According to reports, the dogs are judged on more than just good-looks, with audience reaction, first impression and unusual attributes all being taken into consideration. Most dogs have been adopted from shelters and rescue homes.

Christy Gentry, the Sonoma-Marin Fair publicist, said in a statement: "The World's Ugliest Dog Contest is an iconic tradition of the Sonoma-Marin Fair".
