Senegal fans spotted cleaning up after themselves after Poland victory

Senegal fans spotted cleaning up after themselves after Poland victory

Cape Town - Senegal outwit Group H opponents Poland 2-1 in their opening Soccer World Cup encounter as they claimed Africa's first victory at the tournament in Russian Federation.

M'Baye Niang then took full advantage of a defensive mix-up from the Eagles to get his country's second goal on the hour, before Grzegorz Krychowiak pulled one back late on to set up a tense finish.

Senegal first found the back of the net in the 37th minute, when Idrissa Gueye's strike deflected off of Poland defender Thiago Cionek and past goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Krychowiak would get one back with a header in the 86th minute but, as Nawalka would admit after the game, it was not almost enough on a bad day at the office for the European side. Senegal will hope to emulate the pioneering team of 2002 captained by Cisse, now the national coach.

Poland, who are now ranked eight in FIFA rankings, will take on Senegal, who will be returning to the FIFA World Cup after a gap of 16 years. Senegal caused a major uproar when it beat France in its first World Cup 2002 match. It's always hard when you let in simple goals, especially the second.

Krychowiak scored from a free kick by Kamil Grosicki from about 35 yards, but Ndiaye made the lead hold up when grabbed a corner kick in stoppage time.

Despite putting in a limp and leaden performance himself, Lewandowski seemed to point the finger at his teammates for their errors, which ultimately cost Poland the game.

But they played with great ambition and goal and showed enough to suggest they could well qualify from what is regarded as a very open group.

"OK, it's important to get off to a good start but the second and third matches are important as well, so hopefully Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Nigeria will step up".

What time does the FIFA World Cup 2018 Poland vs Senegal begin in IST?

The Egyptians had lost to a Jose Gimenez 89th minute goal, and since then three other African teams have lost their opening group games.

"I don't think any excuse is good enough for the first half". Videos Bristling with pace and force, the Senegalese imposed themselves on the game before Robert Lewandowski's Poland could shake off their slumber.

But Senegal ensured he saw little of the ball in their clash at Spartak Stadium, preventing him from having a shot on target until the 50-minute mark.

Senegal, with 10 European players in their starting line-up, played like a European side, with a well-drilled backline led superbly by Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly who largely subdued Poland's record scorer Robert Lewandowski.
