Pompeo: Trump North Korea tweet was done with 'eyes wide open'

President Donald Trump continued to h ype the results of his Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday morning by framing a massive concession he made as savings for the U.S. military.

Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera said Japan saw "US-South Korean joint exercises and the US military presence in South Korea as vital to security in East Asia".

Lasting peace has obvious benefits for China, especially in bolstering the development of its rust-belt and landlocked northeast which borders North Korea and would suffer in the even of conflict.

Mr Trump had earlier said that sanctions would "remain in effect" until "the nukes are no longer a factor", but it was unclear exactly what that meant.

However this stock phrase, favored by Pyongyang, stopped short of longstanding U.S. demands for North Korea to give up its atomic arsenal in a "verifiable" and "irreversible" way.

Ahn Il-san, the North's chief delegate, said the delay was due to "certain headwinds" without elaborating, adding the two sides should overcome future obstacles based on mutual understanding and the spirit of the inter-Korean summit.

Trump was also accused of being overly flattering is his language toward Kim, who leads one of the most repressive governments in the world, after saying the North Korean leader was a "talented man" who "loves his country very much".

He said that Kim is "very smart" and a "good negotiator". Also, by letting North Korea dictate what the United States military does, Trump sends the USA down a slippery slope.

Bret Baier's first interview with Donald Trump since he became POTUS, was tearing up the TV news turf this evening, after the Fox News political anchor asked POTUS about his just-wrapped summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Following the summit, Trump told reporters during a news conference in Singapore that Kim agreed to "destroying a major missile engine testing site" and that it would be done "very soon", without elaborating further on which testing site or timing. All of us owe a great deal and should show some gratitude towards Moon Jae-in because he was elected by the people of the candlelight revolution in South Korea who deposed Park Geun-hye the previous president.

A government source familiar with the matter told Reuters that Japanese officials planned to discuss the summit meeting with North Korean officials at an worldwide conference on Northeast Asian security to be held on Thursday and Friday in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang said the issue of these military drills was not discussed in detail at the U.S.

Greeting the South Korean delegation, An, the North's top delegate, joked that Kim would be recorded as the first person in uniform who has crossed the military demarcation line that divides the two Koreas.

It all started when Jesse Watters kvetched that Trump gets no respect despite the fact it was the Obama administration that "botched pretty much everything they touched".

And he sought reassurance that the US military presence in Japan would not be reduced, after Trump indicated that he would like to withdraw all or some of the more than 28,000 troops in South Korea at some point, as both a cost saving measure, and to reduce a perceived overextended USA military presence overseas.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Mr Trump expressed his intention to halt US-South Korean joint military exercises, offer security guarantees to the North and lift sanctions against it as relations improve.

Experts said the decision to postpone the drills was a win for Beijing, who have long sought a way to drive a wedge between the United States and its East Asian allies.

But others said it's a great step forward for peace.
