Donald Trump Says North Korea No Longer A Nuclear Threat

Donald Trump Says North Korea No Longer A Nuclear Threat

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un have reportedly exchanged mutual state visit invitations during a historic Singapore summit, where the North Korean leader emphasized the need to halt hostile and irritating actions against each other. The likelihood of Trump launching a first strike against North Korea, thus setting South Korea, where more than 100,000 Americans live and/or work, ablaze and risking a strike against population centers in the US, was similarly low.

In his tweets, Mr Trump called his meeting with Kim "an interesting and very positive experience".

Despite the confusion and disappointment among some, the summit managed to, for a time at least, reset a relationship that has always been characterised by bloodshed and threats.

After the whirlwind trip, Trump eagerly boasted, "There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea".

"Before taking office people were assuming that we were going to War with North Korea", he continued in a second post.

The two leaders met on Tuesday, signing a brief declaration on denuclearisation and reducing tensions.

North and South Korea remain technically at war after the 1950-53 conflict ended in an armistice that Seoul's then leader refused to sign and divided the peninsula along the demilitarised zone.

Several topics were discussed Tuesday during Trump and Kim's summit, including the "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

"North Korea seems to be highlighting this as one of Kim Jong Un's greatest feats yet and lauding itself for keeping the North Korean regime from collapsing while succeeding in shaking up the U.S".

The official newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea featured 14 photos covering over half of the front page of its issue yesterday, showing a jovial Mr Kim walking with Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and other Singaporean officials at Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands hotel.

Backdrops of US and North Korean flags, both red white and blue, were also prominent in the Rodong Sinmun, which has previously lashed the United States as a "gangster-like imperialist", and "cancer-like entity".

There was little else mention of denuclearization of North Korea in the statement, which mainly focused on stopping hostilities between North Korea and the United States.

While the USA has yet to confirm the contents of the reports, they suggest that the two leaders reached more verbal agreements than they put on paper, and made public. The statement made clear that Pyongyang was expecting USA concessions before any moves by the North.

Trump declared he and Kim had developed "a very special bond", and Kim said the leaders had "decided to leave the past behind" and promised, "The world will see a major change".

After decades of isolation over its nuclear and missile programmes, the regime - decried for human rights abuses at home and its destabilising threats of war - received a warm embrace from the U.S. president, who welcomed an agreement on the "complete denuclearisation" of the Korean peninsula, even as critics suggested the document was short on details. Still, others might say let's wait until there's an actual peace deal before we start doling out the accolades.

"It is up to the United States and South Korea to decide about their joint exercises".

Trump said Tuesday that he would invite Kim to the White House at an "appropriate time".

"His country has to be de-nuked, and he understood that, he fully understood that", Trump said.
