Trump leaves G7 meet in shambles, calls Trudeau 'dishonest liar'

Trump leaves G7 meet in shambles, calls Trudeau 'dishonest liar'

The Canadian dollar was trading at 76.90 cents USA, down from Friday's average value of 77.15 cents USA, after Trump continued his attacks on Canada and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Kudlow said the United States participated in G7 talks and bilateral talks on Nafta in good faith and that Trump had been "charming".

Following Trudeau's statement, Trump tweeted that the USA would not sign on to the summit's official communique- a largely symbolic but still largely unprecedented move.

Trudeau, who had said at the news conference that Canada would retaliate for new US tariffs, didn't respond to questions about Trump when the prime minister arrived at a Quebec City hotel Sunday for meetings with other world leaders.

In a pointed criticism of Trump's policy, May said that the most effective way of reaping the benefits of globalisation was through multilateral action, adding: "It can not be done by taking unilateral action against your partners". In a tweet, Trump pointed to "Justin's false statements at his news conference" and "the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs".

"The reactions from White House Trade Czar Peter Navarro and NEC Director Larry Kudlow are so outsized it would seem that Trump himself was apoplectic when he heard/saw the comments from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and that Navarro and Kudlow were speaking to an audience of one on instruction", he said.

"The United States loses political influence in the rest of the world, and they also lose position as a centerpiece in efforts to find global joint mechanisms and set the agenda", said Solberg, who had been invited to attend the summit.

"Canadians.stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers in far-off lands in conflicts from the First World War onward", he said.

White House aide Larry Kudlow tells CNN's "State of the Union" says Trudeau has done a "great disservice" to the G-7 by saying Canada had to stand up for itself and that the us was responsible for the problem with tariffs.

He added that Trudeau's statement risked making Trump look weak before his meeting with Kim Jong Un, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Singapore.

Trudeau's foreign minister responded by condemning "ad hominem attacks", and Germany and France criticised Trump's comments.

A New York Times reporter who was present at the Trudeau press conference tweeted Sunday that he didn't understand what remarks Kudlow was referring to when the economic adviser said Trudeau stabbed the U.S.in the back. Trudeau's office, in turn, said what the Canadian leader said on Saturday was nothing new. He says that we are the problem with tariffs.

On Sunday, after the summit, Trudeau held a press conference in which he spoke about American trade policies.

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", it said.

"So I think Prime Minister Trudeau hit the right note".

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door", he said. "One of the arguments was that the president can't show weakness, and that what Trudeau did required this robust response otherwise the president would appear to be weak as he flew to Singapore".
