A Big Challenge Ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad

A Big Challenge Ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad

Yesterday, Rishabh Pant's blistering knock went in vain as Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed Delhi Daredevils by nine wickets in their IPL clash at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in the national capital to book their spot in playoffs.

Shakib Al Hasan picked two wickets. While Shikar Dhawan made 92 of just 50 balls, Williamson managed to get 83 in 53 balls.

The win sees the Sunrisers become the first side to cement their position in this year's IPL playoffs, while the Daredevils' season is all but over.

However eventually, Pant's sublime side prevailed over his ridiculous side and DD were able to reach a very competitive total of 187/5. Delhi Daredevils won the toss and opted to bat first.

Pant, who now has 582 runs, bettered Gautam Gambhir's long-standing record for most runs in a single edition. After being involved in two run outs, it needed something special from the Delhi wicketkeeper to make up for it.

70 Runs scored by Pant off Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan, off only 24 balls. He took 13 runs off Shakib's last over and in the process recorded his fourth fifty of the season, off only 36 balls. "It was a harsh defeat for our team as the wicket got better in the second innings because of dew", Pant said.

SRH coach Tom Moody had insisted that "players like Shikhar Dhawan don't just disappear off the face of Earth" on the eve of the game and the Delhi star chose the ideal setting to roar back to form. Bullying SRH's bowlers on a relatively slow pitch, Pant took the attack to Hyderabad's fabled bowling line-up. To Pant's credit, he retrieved the situation with his maiden T20 2018 century, that included 15 fours and seven sixes, including three off the final three deliveries of the innings, bowled by pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Rishabh Pant has hit his first century in IPL and his outbursting performance helps the team in giving the target of 188 runs to SRH.

Delhi made a decision to put scoreboard pressure on the opposition by deciding to bat but things did not go according to plan in the powerplay. The visitors lost the wicket of Alex Hales early as Delhi started brightly with the ball.

Thereafter, experienced global pair Dhawan and Williamson led an utterly chanceless run-chase, with the latter bringing up a sixth IPL fifty of the season.
