Iran nuclear deal: Johnson tells Commons he wants pact to continue

Iran nuclear deal: Johnson tells Commons he wants pact to continue

The United States will be the one to lose from President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the nuclear pact with Iran, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on May 9, after Trump announced he pulled Washington out of a landmark deal curbing Iran's nuclear program and reimposed crippling sanctions on May 8.

"President Trump's decision reverses Obama's failed foreign policy and protects Americans and our closest allies in the Middle-East from this malicious regime", said Staver.

In comments before school teachers, Khamenei told Trump: "You can not do a damn thing!" France, Britain and Germany outlined possible new sanctions for Iran as a way to not only keep Trump committed to the deal, but also persuade their European Union partners to save the accord.

Khamenei described Trump's speech Tuesday night as having "over 10 lies", without elaborating. He also said Trump's remarks threatened both Iran's people and its theocratic government.

It further asked them to properly handle the disputes over the nuclear deal. U.S. Sen. Cory Booker joined most other Senate Democrats in supporting it.

The 2015 deal had placed unprecedented restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in sanctions relief.

Donald Trump has defended his decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal, saying "bedlam" and "death" follow wherever Iran is involved.

"It is a grave mistake to walk away from this deal without a plan for ensuring that Iran does not restart its nuclear weapon program, without a strategy for countering Iran's risky non-nuclear activities, and without our allies and partners", Menendez said.

Iran has said it will still comply with the accord, which also included Great Britain, France, Germany, China and Russian Federation, but now European companies may have to deal with fresh sanctions on Iran. Even Mr Trump's vague promise of being "ready, willing, and able" to negotiate a "new and lasting deal" means little, especially when his actions show the United States can not be perceived as a responsible player in negotiating and standing by global or multilateral arrangements.

But the UN's nuclear watchdog, which is charged with ensuring Iran abides by the terms of the deal, said Wednesday Tehran was upholding its "nuclear-related commitments". He warned that his country could restart its nuclear activities within weeks, which could lead to turmoil in the region. "Everything depends on our national interests". "Our response will be stronger than what they imagine and they would see that within a week", he had said.

"With all of the places they're involved, it's bedlam and death and we can't allow that to happen", he said, adding: "They've gotta understand life".

However, Wednesday's demonstration reflected public anger in Iran after Trump's decision. "They have no shame", he said.

Iran's poor economy and unemployment sparked nationwide protests in December and January that saw at least 25 people killed and, reportedly, almost 5,000 arrested.
