Google Just Fixed the Biggest Maps Problem with This Brilliant Idea

Google Just Fixed the Biggest Maps Problem with This Brilliant Idea

The mission for Google Maps for the past several years has been to help people get around in their environments.

Not everyone has a flawless sense of direction and tired travelers can save themselves a few extra steps by using the overlay to get off on the right foot, and stay headed in the right direction.

New Google Lens features will be implemented on devices from 11 Android OEMs, including the LG G7 ThinQ, in just weeks.

Instead of relying on an unclear blue dot while walking around a cluttered city, Google suggests this camera-fueled augmented reality interface may one day save the day.

Shortlist will be a new menu that helps groups of friends find places they like to eat - by isolating and learning the eating habits of friends, shortlist will automatically create a list of popular favourites, eliminating the need of texting back and forth or spending time finding a place that everyone agrees with.

Small businesses will also be getting access to tools on Google Maps, making them more accessible to customer calls or to edit operating hours on the fly.

There's also a new For You tab in the app that Google describes in further detail below. With the new features, Maps is expected to become more helpful and personal as the service will now offer more customised suggestions and recommendations for users based on the location.

There is a new "For You" section as well, which will show you information about events and other local shenanigans based on communities users are interested in. "Your matches change as your own tastes and preferences evolve over time - it's like your own expert sidekick, helping you quickly assess your options and confidently make a decision". Using machine learning, For You will offer up better recommendations of places to go. Google has also admitted that it is thinking of inserting animated characters to the new feature like a fox to make it more entertaining, according to Apple Insider.

If that wasn't enough, a new "For You" tab will let you know about all of the exciting culinary adventures taking place in your 'hood.
