49ers Trade Offensive Tackle Trent Brown to Patriots for Third-Round Pick

49ers Trade Offensive Tackle Trent Brown to Patriots for Third-Round Pick

ESPN's Field Yates says the Patriots have acquired Trent Brown and pick 143 (fifth round) in this weekend's draft in exchange for pick 95 (third round). He started 26 games over the past two seasons, including 10 a year ago at right tackle before being placed on injured reserve. And the Patriots have a need at tackle after Nate Solder left in free agency this offseason.

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport later tweeted that the deal is done and Brown passed his physical.

Brown figures to be in good position to play immediately for the Patriots, who look like they're building their offensive line with former SEC East after adding Wynn to play alongside former Georgia center David Andrews.

Brown was drafted by the Niners in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. It was then believed they might snag Mason Rudolph in the second round, especially with the pick they got for Garoppolo, No. 43 overall, sitting there, begging to become another quarterback. He played left tackle last season for the Bulldogs, but also plays guard.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - The San Francisco 49ers have traded right tackle Trent Brown to the New England Patriots a day after drafting Mike McGlinchey as his replacement in the first round. He's continuing his recovery from the injury and is expected to be back for training camp.

As you might imagine, Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio didn't really entertain this storyline when asked about it on Friday night. The Patriots traded the 117th overall pick as well as their own pick at No. 63 in order to move up to get the No. 56 overall pick. "Right now, we're pleased to have great competition at that spot", said Lynch.
