IPL-2018: RCB look to stretch winning momentum against Royals

Virat Kohli's led RCB will hope to win as they welcome Kings XI Punjab in their first home game of IPL 2018. Mandeep Singh, in trying to take a double, threw away his wicket and he ran himself out.

There were two separate occasions during their chase of 155 that Bangalore lost pairs of wickets in quick succession. It was a much needed win for RCB to start IPL 2018 on a positive note after their loss during the last match.

A careful batting approach often corresponds to a bloating required run-rate, and just as RCB looked to have fallen off the pace de Kock and de Villiers hit back. As the margin suggests, it was a one-sided show and though that was true in the second half of the game, they were guilty of squandering a good start in the first half.

Umesh Yadav's lethal bowling rocked the top batting line up of KXIP as he took 3 wickets and was also awarded man of the match. RCB required 69 in 51 balls with De Villiers and Mandeep together. But then there was still a certain AB de Villiers (57, 40b, 2x4, 4x6) at the crease, making a mockery of both the relative difficulty of the task and the slow nature of the pitch. Agarwal was caught out and Yuvraj Singh was bowled out. Quinton de Kock and skipper Virat Kohli made a 32 run partnership but soon the captain succumbed to a handsome delivery by Rahman.

Pacer Umesh Yadav rocked the Kings XI Punjab innings with a three-wicket burst in an over as Royal Challengers Bangalore bowled out the visitors for 155 in their IPL match here today.

The star spin pair of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar failed in the last game, leaking 77 runs in 56 balls and claiming just one wicket.

The Bangalore outfit, apart from the likes of de Villiers and Kohli have Brendon McCullum in their side. In the next over, de Villiers deposited Mohit Sharma into upper tier and with that, he brought up his fifty. Consistently bowling at speeds of over 140 kmph, he ran amok in his second over to claim three top order batsmen - Mayank Agarwal, Aaron Finch, Yuvraj Singh - and it should rank among the best spell of fast bowling at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Earlier, KL Rahul (47, 30b, 2x4, 4x6) provided Kings XI with an identical start he had delivered for them against Delhi Daredevils in their opener in Mohali. Rahane has a reliable option in Krishnappa Gowtham, who has bowled in the powerplay and is familiar with the trade of wicket-taking as well as run-containment in the early overs. In his 30-ball knock, he slammed two boundaries and four sixes.

Punjab surprisingly dropped big-hitting West Indian Chris Gayle in the last game but he could open the innings as he knows the conditions well, the venue where he smashed an incredible 175 in the 2013 edition.
