Apple: BlueFin Slashes iPhone Estimates for 2018; 'Challenging' Environment

Apple: BlueFin Slashes iPhone Estimates for 2018; 'Challenging' Environment

Based on the factory's current progress, "consumers will probably have to wait a few years" for the screens to appear in Apple Watches, and it's "unlikely that the technology will reach an iPhone for at least three to five years". According to suppliers, the Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM) for that will be 10% lower than the iPhone X. Apple will also cut costs by giving it lower specs than the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone. Now a new report has surfaced online suggesting price of the 5.8-inch variant.

According to a report from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, Apple could launch a 5.85-inch OLED iPhone that would be cheaper to manufacture than the original iPhone X. The report has also revealed that Apple has managed to bring down the manufacturing costs of the device to a much lower level.

Some reports at the time indicate trial production of finished iPhone X units did not start until late August, a process that normally concludes in July.

There was another project, undertaken by Apple, to develop a 5.85-inch LCD iPhone. The report also claims that the Phone X MBOM was more than $400 past year. The iPhone X now costs $1000 (or approx Rs 65,085), making it the most expensive smartphone from Apple.

That said, the 5.85-inch OLED iPhone will surprisingly be the cheapest of the three. Earlier this month, a Bloomberg report mentioned that the company will debut three new iPhones in 2018.

iPhone sales did miss expectations during Apple's most recent quarter, but CEO Tim Cook said that the "iPhone X surpassed our expectations and has been our top-selling iPhone every week since it shipped in November". Indeed, per DisplayMate's testing, the display found on the Galaxy S9 is actually more color accurate than the one found on the iPhone X.

The purported iPhone SE 2 features an aluminum chassis instead of the stainless steel frame used on the iPhone X. The back also features a vertically aligned dual-camera setup that seems to be inspired by the iPhone X.

My guess is that a $100 premium for the iPhone X Plus over the iPhone X is the most likely pricing scenario. We could very well see a new Apple Pencil with expanded compatibility for lower-end iPads. This could be an indication for Apple fans to expect a price drop from the massive $999 price point of the iPhone X that was launched a year ago.
