South African officials face action — MASKS CONTROVERSY

South African officials face action — MASKS CONTROVERSY

This comes fresh from the controversy of the previous Test match, in which a fight broke out after a remark about Warner's wife by Quinton de Kock.

South African fans have been distributing masks of Sonny Bill Williams during the second Test at Port Elizabeth, a poor taste attempt to get under the skin of the Aussie opener at the expense of his wife over an infamous toilet tryst in 2007 with the rugby star.

According to an Australian news website, CSA's commercial manager Clive Eksteen and media and communications manager Altaaf Khazi were photographed arm-in-arm with punters who had been allowed into the St George's Park ground wearing Williams's masks.

Both South African officials must be sacked for this, it is bewildering that they would both stoop so low as this.

"CSA has taken immediate precautionary steps against the officials allegedly involved in this incident", the statement read.

"On behalf of CSA I extend my honest apologies to the board of Cricket Australia (CA), its officials, team management, players and their families", commented CSA President Chris Nenzani in a CSA statement.

Meanwhile, CSA had reiterated that freedom of expression will be respected, within the limits of their own guidelines for spectator behaviour, which does not tolerate any racism, sexism or derogatory comments.

The Australian team has been made aware of the photo and are outraged by it, as well as CSA's call to overturn a decision by venue security to have the masks confiscated in bags at the turnstiles on entry.

Initially, stadium security had refused to allow the masks in because of what Kazi called a "misunderstanding", though it is not clear on whose instructions the security were initially acting.

"They're fans.they wanted to come with them".

If they both do not go, then it is surely a sign that cricket is losing its class. "They said "let's take a photo with you guys", revealed Kazi.
