Jacksonville Jaguars to sign Andrew Norwell

Jacksonville Jaguars to sign Andrew Norwell

Many believed the Colts to have heavy interest in Norwell, who could have upgraded the offensive line in a big way, something that has become a project since Andrew Luck was drafted in 2012.

Free agents can not officially sign with teams until the new league year begins on Wednesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will sign former Carolina Panthers guard Andrew Norwell to a five-year, $66.5 million deal when free agency opens, according to a source.

Norwell's new contract will pay out at an average of $13.3 million per season, slightly edging out Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Russell Okung-whose current agreement brings in a $13.25 million salary-for the highest annual income of any offensive lineman.

Norwell started all 16 games at left guard for Carolina a year ago for the second straight season but the Panthers elected not to place the franchise tag on the former 2014 undrafted free agent out of Ohio State.

Not only that, but the Jaguars did have the best rushing offense in the league last season. Former Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman was attempting to lure Norwell to the Giants as part of a rebuilt offensive line. In 2016, Norwell allowed just two sacks for the season.

The 49ers might also consider offensive line upgrades in the National Football League draft.
