Jared Kushner's Ties to Banks Under Scrutiny

Jared Kushner's Ties to Banks Under Scrutiny

The real estate company owned by the family of White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, who also happens to be President Donald Trump's son-in-law, received more than $500 million in loans a year ago after executives from the lending companies met with Kushner at the White House.

"So that loan, $184 million, after these meetings at the White Wouse between the Apollo guy and Jared Kushner...they talk among other things about a potential job at the White House for the Apollo guy", Maddow noted. The Apollo loan was triple the size of the average Apollo property loan, the Times says.

Citigroup in the spring of 2017 also lent Kushner Companies money totaling $325 million.

Officials from the United Arab Emirates, China, Israel and Mexico have privately discussed how to use Kushner's lack of foreign policy experience and business interests to their advantage, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

DFS Superintendent Maria Vullo, an appointee of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has asked for the banks to reply to her request by Monday, March 5, said the person familiar with the letters.

Earlier this month, Bloomberg LP reported both the IRS and U.S. Department of Justice subpoenaed lenders and investors involved with Kushner family properties in NY and New Jersey, some dating back as far as 2010.

And spokespeople for both companies asserted the loans granted to Kushner Companies were unrelated to the meetings.

The diminished security clearance will hinder Mr Kushner's foreign policy role.

Apollo spokesman Charles Zehren told the paper Harris was not involved in the decision to loan money to Kushner Cos. The two reportedly did not discuss Kushner Companies.

Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Kushner's lawyer Abbe Lowell, said Kushner has had no role in Kushner Cos since joining the government.

Jared Kushner, senior adviser and son-in-law to US President Donald Trump, has had his security clearance downgraded, according to sources familiar with the issue.

Taylor, of Kushner Cos, told the Times "stories like these attempt to make insinuating connections that do not exist to disparage the financial institutions and companies involved".

Kushner's security clearance, as first reported by Politico, was downgraded Tuesday by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, along with those of several other administration staffers who had been working on interim clearances since Trump's inauguration.

Kushner's contacts with foreign officials are now under investigation by US special counsel Robert Mueller, who has been probing Russia's interference in the last presidential election since May 2017. According to reports, Mueller has been looking into the financial dealings of a number of Trump family members, including Kushner. Kushner also still holds a stake in the entity that owns the Brooklyn buildings and received the loan from Citigroup. His real estate holdings and other investments are worth as much as $761 million, according to government ethics filings.

Citigroup gave Kushner Companies a sum of $325 million - one of the largest loans availed by the company previous year - to help finance a group of office buildings in Brooklyn.
