Nerves? Pressure? Yes, it's daunting pairing up with Tiger Woods

Nerves? Pressure? Yes, it's daunting pairing up with Tiger Woods

This was his seventh straight round over par at PGA National.

Then the Bear Trap mauled the Tiger.

Defending champion Rickie Fowler was one over par after three bogeys left him at 71 while Rory McIlroy put up a double bogey seven on the last for a two-over 72.

He sits a whopping nine shots back of the lead at five-over and could fall further away when pacesetter Alex Noren gets his second round under way in the afternoon wave. When he rolled in the birdie putt - one of just nine there all day - the screaming onlookers let loose.

"This golf course is kind of an iron paradise, if you got that going", he said.

His decision to play this week marks his first attempt at back-to-back tournaments since 2015 as he vies to become a contender again following spinal fusion surgery, his fourth back operation, last April. And the battle will continue as conditions will not ease on the weekend.

Tiger Woods signed for a 1-over 71 to be T14 while the two Australians in the field, Adam Scott and Greg Chalmers, both made the cut on the number at 5-over. It's hard to make putts.

"I'm so happy I'm not in pain anymore, but I'm fused, so it's a little bit different", he said leading up to the tournament, per Steve DiMeglio of USA Today. "It was a tough day out there for all of us, and even par is a good score".

Then, he hit out of a fairway bunker, over the water and onto the green at the risky 16th hole and faced a 65-foot putt. At least I found it hard. With the ball unplayable, Woods took a drop and a penalty stroke, and was able to minimize the damage by jarring a 10-foot bogey putt.

"It's a strong test out there". Seamus Power didn't fare much better, a 151 total over the first two days leaving him at +11 and looking on to the next event. "But my short game and putting was probably the best it has been for a long time". His ball-striking was better today as he hit two more GIR (14 of 18) to give him 26 of 36 for the week (T4). He has opted to hit many knock-down, three-quarter shots to counter the wind. In addition to the 36 tee shots that found the water, only 42 players hit the green out of 141. "It feels good", he said.

The Bear Trap almost derailed his round when Woods rinsed his tee shot on No. 15 and ended up with a double bogey.

The eagle hole-out got Fleetwood to 3 under for the tournament and one back of the lead at the time. But his first putt went about 90 feet and he didn't make the comebacker.

Keep up with every hole from Woods' day at updates below.

"I'm four back", Woods said. "I've done that, and I'm right there with a chance".
