David Padgett to speak after Louisville loses 2013 national championship banner

David Padgett to speak after Louisville loses 2013 national championship banner

The NCAA's decision to uphold its ruling for Louisville to vacate wins during the 2011-12 through 2014-15 seasons probably has Rick Pitino suffering a severe case of tattoo remorse. It must also repay revenue earned from appearances in the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 basketball tournaments, amounting to about $600,000.

University of Louisville interim President Dr. Greg Postel speaks to the media during a news conference, Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, in Louisville, Ky.

"The NCAA's ruling can not change the accomplishments or the excitement generated by our Cardinals basketball team", Postel said.

'While we disagree with the NCAA's decision, it is time for the university to close this chapter and move forward with a stronger commitment to excellence on and off the court, ' he said.

Brought to light by self-proclaimed escort Katina Powell in the fall of 2015, former Louisville assistant coach Andre McGee paid Powell to organize parties for players and high school protects.

Pitino has plenty of connections to the New England and MA area, as he played at UMass and coached Boston University, Providence College and the Boston Celtics before arriving at Louisville.

In the June 2017, the NCAA's final rule included a four-year probation, an in-season suspension of Pitino and the potential loss of 108 regular season wins and 15 postseason wins from 2011-14.

At the time the penalties were announced, Postel said in a statement that the NCAA penalties "went beyond what we consider to be fair and reasonable".

It is important to note that this ruling has no effect on the current NCAA investigation into the current men's basketball corruption scandal, in which Louisville is also involved. "There was an immediate recognition of the facts, the issuance of an apology, serious self-imposed penalties, extraordinary cooperation with the investigation that followed".

But that was not enough substance for the Committee on Infractions to hear them out.

"This dark cloud has hung over our heads for more than two years, and it has had a negative impact on our athletics program, our fans and the entire university family", Postel said in his statement.

David Padgett has been serving as Louisville's acting head coach since Pitino's departure.

Pitino was placed on administrative leave on September 27 and then fired with "just cause" on October 16.

The university filed a countersuit against Pitino on December 13 for "wrongful conduct" and argued that he is financially responsible for damages caused by the recent scandals.
